Natural environment

Tálknafjörður is a peaceful and tranquil place with beautiful nature. The fjord itself is relatively small compared to others in the west of the Westfjords of Iceland. White sand adorns the beaches, which in many places are shallow and therefore ideal for bathing in the sea.

The climate is quite cool and dry and often calm, both in summer and winter, although winter storms may strike. However, nothing should prevent you from staying at Fell during the wintertime to enjoy the starry sky and northern lights.

The fjord has plenty of hot water, for example on the slopes of the small valley known as Litli- Laugardalur where you can enjoy the outdoors while sitting in a warm pool called Pollurinn (“The Puddle”). Inside the village itself there is a 25 metre swimming pool, a sportshall and a gym. The swimming pool is located beside a camping site that is considered among the best in Iceland.

Fell is a perfect place for walks, both long and short, within the fjord as well as over mountain paths to the next fjord to the north, Arnarfjörður.

South of Tálknafjörður lies Patreksfjörður, from where you could drive to, among other places, Látrabjarg, home to one of Iceland's biggest puffin habitats as well as to Rauðasandur (“Red sand”), one of the Westfjords biggest and most beautiful beaches.
